Who we are…

The Wimmera Easter Convention is a non denominational christian organisation committed to serving our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Our shared goal is to love God by loving those around us and living out our faith in a real and authentic way. Our convention is held annually over the Easter long weekend in Warracknabeal and draws hundreds of people who come together to celebrate this wonderful time.

Why not join us in Warracknabeal this Easter?

Since 1937…

On Good Friday, 1937, a group of church members from Jeparit, Lorquon, and Rainbow Methodist churches met for a rally at Picnic Point, Lake Hindmarsh. Discussion turned to the idea of holding an annual convention. Mrs Nan Kube led the inquiries, starting with contacting the Upwey Convention Committee.

The first Convention was held in the following November with 35 people attending. To attract a wider group of interested people, Warracknabeal Methodist Church was chosen as the venue for the 1938 Easter Convention with the renowned John Ridley and W. Wright as speakers.

Each Easter saw the number of attendees grow and venues change to accommodate the need. Two meetings were held each day, Good Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Anzac Park was out grown, necessitating the move to the Town Hall. The young people’s camp was very popular. Girls sleeping under the grandstand at Anzac Park and the boys in the footy shed. Over the years, the High School has been the venue for the Junior camp, the Primary School and the Community Centre for Young Adults and Brim Sports Centre for the Teenage camp.

As the population in the Wimmera has decreased with larger farm holdings, the Convention returned to its starting point, Warracknabeal Uniting Church, and recently enjoying the facilities of the Wheatlands Church in 2021.

The main feature of the Convention over the 83 years, and hence its invaluable influence on hundreds of lives, has been the faithful expository teaching from the Bible as the infallible Word of God. Emphasis on missionary endeavour around the world and at home has brought significant blessing to those who have shared and to those who have heard of God’s great commission ` Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation’ Mark 16:15, ‘teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you’ Matthew 28:20
